The Bursary Department of McPherson University recently organized a two-day in-house training aimed at enhancing the productivity and professionalism of its staff. The training, held on Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd of July, 2025, was spearheaded by the University Bursar, Mrs. Aderonke Adeofun, and brought together staff members and senior officials, including the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Adegbaye Igbasan and other principal officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
In his opening remarks, Professor Igbasan commended the bursary department for the initiative, stressing the importance of continuous capacity building. \u201cThis seminar should have a lasting impact on your work,\u201d he noted. \u201cIt can only be achieved if you pay attention and take advantage of this opportunity to grow.\u201d He also encouraged staff to consider professional advancement, saying, \u201cYou may have been in this field for years, but without professional certification like ANAN or ICAN, it may not count.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mrs. Adeofun, while giving an overview of the objectives, emphasized that the training was designed to promote accountability, professionalism, and efficiency among staff. \u201cThere\u2019s a popular saying: If you don\u2019t train them, you can\u2019t blame them. This training is to help us become more proactive, embrace internal controls, and follow due process,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Bursar outlined key takeaways expected from the sessions, which include embracing professionalism, adopting proactive steps to improve results, cooperating with internal controls, and ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The training was delivered in two segments, featuring Professionals and hands-on sessions. On the first day, Mr. Osunla A. led discussions on revenue, bank reconciliation, receivables, and payables, while Mr. Ogunade A. focused on expenditure and payment processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Day two featured a deep dive into digital financial tools, starting with an introduction to the FINAP software by Mr. Olajorin L. Other key sessions included \u201cStatement of Financial Position & Report Preparation\u201d and \u201cPayroll and Accounting Software Management\u201d delivered by Mr. Ogundiaro S.O.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To conclude the training, Mrs. Adeofun delivered a detailed presentation on budget preparation and implementation, aimed at widening the understanding and scope of bursary staff in financial planning and execution.
