The Vice-Chancellor of McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, Prof. Francis Igbasan, has been honoured with the African Leadership Award 2025 by the All-African Students\u2019 Union (AASU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
A seven-member delegation of AASU, led by the Vice-President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Lawal A\u2019Pounds, presented the award during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor in his office at McPherson University. Other members of the delegation included Emmanuel Otega, Titilayo Olaleye, Adediwura Salawu, Samuel Oche, Olayinka Olutayo, and Richard Deem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The AASU, a continental representative body of democratic student unions with 54 member organizations across Francophone and Anglophone Africa, described Prof. Igbasan as a \u201cBeacon of Hope for Africa\u2019s Development.\u201d The Union noted that the award is conferred annually on eminent Africans, institutions, and organizations that have distinguished themselves in their respective fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at the event, Comrade Lawal A\u2019Pounds commended Prof. Igbasan\u2019s leadership, describing his stewardship as \u201ca direct response to the prolonged cravings of our generation for quality leadership, development, and greatness.\u201d He added that the award recognizes leaders who inspire young Africans and serve as role models for the next generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his remarks, Prof. Igbasan thanked AASU for the honour and provided the delegation with a brief background of the Institution that was founded in February 2012, by the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria. He highlighted the remarkable feat of over a decade, citing the academic and professional excellence achieved by its students. He welcomed the team warmly, pledging his continued contribution to the Union\u2019s mission of advancing quality leadership and development across Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
