In a pivotal initiative to strengthen technology education in Nigeria, McPherson University in Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, recently partnered with the ICP Sahara Hubs Network to organise a five-day i-CODE Cohort Programme. Held at the university’s ICT Lab, this initiative aims at empowering developers with the skills needed to build scalable blockchain products on the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The programme garnered attention not just for its technical focus, but also for its inclusivity. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Igbasan, was represented by Dr. Adeduro Oladapo, Acting Head of Cybersecurity. He emphasized the importance of skill acquisition for all students, regardless of their major. \u201cThis training is not limited to students of computer science or cybersecurity but is open to anyone willing to learn,\u201d he stated, urging participants to seize the opportunity to expand their knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Oladapo challenged the attendees, reminding them that practical skills are what truly matter after graduation. \u201cWhat you can do with your hands is what will set you apart,\u201d he said. His message resonated with participants, who were encouraged to fully engage with the training and maximize the resources available to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Damilare Kalajaiye, the cohort organiser, outlined the objectives of the training. He explained that the skills gained would not only benefit the participants individually but also have a broader societal impact. \u201cThe world has evolved, and we too should evolve,\u201d he said, emphasizing the need for solutions that address real-world problems through technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adding to the excitement, the organisers announced a reward system for active participants. This initiative aims at ensuring that attendees remain focused throughout the programme. Such recognition serves to enhance motivation and commitment, creating a vibrant learning environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Emmanuel Ibam, Acting Dean of the College of Computing, declared the event open and reminded students of the unique opportunity they were presented with. \u201cYou are lucky to receive this training for free,\u201d he said, recalling his own experiences of paying significant fees for similar programs. His words underscored the value of the initiative and encouraged students to appreciate the learning opportunity before them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The curriculum to be covered during the 5-day i-CODE programme, includes practical workshops and interactive sessions, ensuring that participants could immediately apply what they learned. By focusing on hands-on experience, the organisers aimed to cultivate a new generation of developers equipped to tackle the challenges of an evolving tech landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
