McPherson University recently hosted Project 10 Million Live, a major health awareness campaign aimed at fighting diabetes and hypertension. Organised by the College of Allied Health Sciences in partnership with the National Health Commissioners Forum (NHCF) and the Ogun State Ministry of Health. The campaign seeks to reduce the impact of these non-communicable diseases through education and proactive health screenings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The initiative provided free blood pressure and blood sugar testing for members of the University Community, especially staff and students, with the aim of helping participants monitor critical health indicators. The organisers of the programme ensured that all necessary materials were deployed to support and achieve the desired success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Abosede Obadina, acting Head of Department, Public Health and Team Lead, emphasized the importance of bringing the campaign to McPherson University. \u201cThis is an initiative to combat hypertension and diabetes,\u201d she explained, adding that students and staff need access to tools and knowledge to take control of their health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miss Oluwabunmi Aremo, a Public Health lecturer in the department, introduced the campaign\u2019s motto: \u201cKnow your numbers and control your numbers.\u201d She explained that understanding one’s blood pressure and blood sugar levels is key to managing health risks, common symptoms and signs of diabetes and hypertension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aremo also urged attendees to make healthy lifestyle choices in order to prevent these diseases. She recommended a balanced diet, regular exercise, and incorporating fruits and vegetables into daily meals. She stressed that lifestyle adjustments can go a long way in helping individuals achieve superb wellness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organising team extended special thanks to Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Igbasan for his support. \u201cThe Vice Chancellor arranged staff of the University’s Health Centre to assist in the medical check, showing his commitment to wellness in campus and making the event accessible for everyone.” she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University’s Acting Registrar, Mr. Olufemi Adebowale, who participated in the health check himself, encouraged all staff and students to take advantage of health screenings, noting the importance of knowing one\u2019s health status as a foundation for overall well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Akeem Shonubi, who is the Acting Dean, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, highlighted the broader potential of the campaign. He suggested expanding the project to include screenings for additional health issues, which would increase its benefits and impact for a wider audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
