The future of university administration took centre stage as McPherson University (McU) Registrar, Mrs. Emi\u2019 Alawode, joined Registrars from Federal, State and Private Universities at the 4th Annual Workshop and 79th Business Meeting of the Association of Registrars of Nigerian Universities (ARNU), held from July 6 to 11, 2026, at the National Universities Commission (NUC) Headquarters, Abuja. The workshop, themed “Nigerian Universities in the Era of Technological Transformation: Challenges, Opportunities and Pathways to Sustainable Growth,” examined emerging issues in technology-driven university administration, governance, and institutional development, while equipping participants with practical strategies to improve efficiency, service delivery, and institutional competitiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
The workshop exposed participants to current trends in technology-driven university administration, with presentations focusing on deploying digital technologies to improve administrative efficiency, institutional governance, service delivery, and global competitiveness. Discussions also examined university funding and autonomy, data protection and cybersecurity, performance management, and the strategic role of Registrars in supporting Vice Chancellors to achieve institutional goals in a rapidly evolving higher education environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reflecting on her participation, Mrs. Alawode said one of her major takeaways was the urgent need to accelerate digital transformation within Registry operations by strengthening records management, embracing technology to improve administrative effectiveness and ensuring compliance with the Nigerian Data Protection Act and other relevant regulatory requirements. She noted that these measures would enhance transparency, efficiency, and service delivery across university administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Registrar further identified continuous capacity development as another key lesson from the workshop, emphasising the need to equip administrative personnel with emerging technological skills and contemporary professional knowledge. She also described the workshop as a valuable platform for networking, peer learning, and the exchange of best practices among Registrars and senior university administrators, fostering professional collaboration to address common challenges within the Nigerian University System.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Expressing appreciation to the Vice Chancellor of McPherson University, Prof. Francis Adegbaye Igbasan, for approving her participation in the ARNU National Workshop and Business Meeting, she noted that the knowledge, experience and professional relationships gained would enrich her contributions to the University and further strengthen the institution\u2019s drive towards administrative excellence, digital transformation and effective university governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
