“We Are Impressed: McPherson University Is Ready for JUPEB Exams,” JUPEB Executive

McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, has been adjudged fully prepared for the forthcoming Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) examinations, following an evaluation by the JUPEB Executive.

JUPEB, a national examination body approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria in December 2013 and formally established in April 2014 by a consortium of ten universities led by the University of Lagos, is known for maintaining strict academic standards through continuous assessment and evaluation of participating institutions.

The evaluation visit to McPherson University was conducted by a two-man delegation led by Professor Adewuyi Sheriff alongside Mr. Femi Odedira. The team assessed both staff capacity and the overall readiness of the programme, including facilities and teaching quality.

Speaking during the visit, Professor Adewuyi Sheriff expressed satisfaction with the standard of the institution. He noted that JUPEB is introducing a hybrid examination format this year, Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for objective questions and handwritten responses for theory. While this may pose challenges for many institutions, he affirmed that McPherson University is well-positioned to handle the transition effectively. He further commended the lecturers for their dedication and highlighted the University’s strong practical components, describing it as one of the best among institutions visited.

The delegation also interacted with students and observed a positive learning attitude, reinforcing their confidence in the University’s preparedness. However, the team advised that the institution should consider expanding its capacity in response to the increase in student enrolment from about 45 to over 100.

In his response, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kenneth Nwoko, appreciated the JUPEB team for the assessment and commendation. He emphasised that although the University is a private institution with limited resources, it remains committed to meeting and exceeding JUPEB requirements. He assured the delegation of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and maintain high academic standards, expressing optimism that the University would achieve even higher ratings in future evaluations.

Overall, the visit concluded with a strong endorsement of McPherson University’s readiness for the upcoming JUPEB examinations scheduled for August, with a call to sustain and build upon the current standards.
