Professor Francis Adegbaye Igbasan is an erudite scholar, a registered Animal Scientist, a prolific writer and a University administrator per excellence!

Born at Ode-Irele in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State about 57 years ago, Professor Igbasan obtained his Primary School Leaving Certificate in 1974 and excelled at the Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) in 1982. He secured admission into the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) where he obtained a Bachelor of Technology degree in Animal Production and Health, graduating with a First Class honour in 1988.

He proceeded to the premier university, the University of Ibadan (UI), Ibadan, in pursuit of more knowledge. He distinguished himself at UI and earned a Master’s degree in 1990. The erudite scholar graduated as one of the best and earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada in 1997.

Interestingly, he was a recipient of the Federal Government Postgraduate Scholarship which he utilized for his Master’s programme. He also won the 1993 Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship for his doctoral programme at the University of Manitoba, Canada.Professor Francis Igbasan has won many distinctions and awards aside the Federal Government Postgraduate and the Canadian Commonwealth Scholarships. At various times, he won Amino Acid Related Research Prize in 1995, 1996 and 1997 by Halchemix Canada Inc. Toronto, Canada. He had also received numerous Letters of Commendation in the course of discharging his pedagogical duties in well over 3 decades in the University system.

Professor Igbasan joined the services of FUTA in 1991 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2013. Within the University system, he has held many positions of responsibilities. He had served as Chairman and member of many Committees within the University system. He was the Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa (formerly known as Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa). Until his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor, McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, Nigeria, he was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Ondo State.

He made a distinction in a training course on Theory, Practice and Future Developments in Accreditation in Higher Education organized by the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and African Quality Assurance Network (AfriQAN) in 2021. He also made a distinction in another training course on Theory, Practice and Future of Academic Planning in University Education organized by NUC and NOUN in 2022. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship in Germany in 1998 among others.

Professor Igbasan is a Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship and a certified Academic Programme and Institutional Accreditor. He was one of the nominees for the National Productivity Merit Award (NPMA) in 2005 by the former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu.

Professor Igbasan has contributed significantly to the growth and development of his professional association. He is a member of many Professional Associations including but not limited to the Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN); Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS), the West African Research and Innovation Management Association (WARIMA) among others.

Aside his commitment to teaching, research and his professional associations since he joined the academia in 1991, Professor Igbasan has attracted many research grants and support to the University system. At various times, he won research grants to his University such as equipment grant of €20,000 from Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany; he was part of the Team that won Sixty-two Million Naira (N62,000,000 million) West African Agricultural Productivity Programme (WAAPP) grant, among many others.

He has attended many conferences and workshops nationally and internationally. The Animal Scientist has over 60 scientific publications with more than 35 of them published in international journals. Interestingly, Professor Igbasan has supervised no fewer than seven (7) Ph.D students and over twenty (20) Master’s students. The indefatigable scholar has served as external examiner and assessor to many Universities within and outside Nigeria.

Aside his pedagogical assignments in the Ivory Tower, he has held many management positions outside the University system. He was once the Chairman, Ondo State Scholarship Board for over 5 years; former Chairman, Ondo State Teaching Service Commission (OSTSC), with over fifteen thousand workers; Board member, Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC); member, Ondo State Policy, Planning & Implementation Committee between 2003 to 2009; member of the Governing Council, Harvest Time Bible College, Akure, among others.

He is a Christian and a member of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Akure District. Professor Igbasan is happily married to Mrs. Omolara Helen Igbasan and the marriage is blessed with 4 wonderful children.
