McU Accounting Department Holds MSc Dissertation Defense

The Department of Accounting, College of Social and Management Sciences at McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, hosted the project defense of two Master of Science (MSc) students. The defense showcased the academic and research excellence within the department. 

The first dissertation, titled “Balanced Scorecard and Organizational Performance of Quoted Service Companies in Nigeria,” was presented by Temitope Adetola Akerele. The research focused on evaluating how the balanced scorecard framework influences the performance of service-oriented companies listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. 

The second dissertation, “Sustainability Reporting Practices and Financial Performance of Listed Industrial Goods Sector in Nigeria,” was authored by Fasesan Yetunde Morenike. This study explored the relationship between sustainability reporting practices and the financial outcomes of companies in the industrial goods sector in Nigeria. 

Both projects were assessed by the external examiner, Kenny Soyemi- Associate Professor of Accounting, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State. Soyemi commended the students for the quality of their research, noting their adherence to academic standards and the relevance of their findings to the Nigerian corporate environment. 

In his remarks, Soyemi praised McPherson University for fostering a culture of impactful research. He emphasized the importance of studies like these in contributing to the understanding and improvement of corporate performance and sustainability practices in Nigeria.
