ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR PROGRAMMES

COLLEGE OF LAW

COURSES UTME SUBJECTS SSCE REQUIREMENTS DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
    LAW English, Literature-in-English, Government, and any ONE of CRK, Commerce, Economics, History, Geography. Admission Requirements
A 5-year standard programme for students with a Senior Secondary School (S.S.S) Certificate, G.C.E. “O” Level or their equivalents is to be offered.
The entry requirements shall be through any of the three under listed options:
(a)         Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination
(b)        ( UTME) Mode
The minimum academic requirement is credit level passes in five (5) subjects at the O’Level in nationally recognised examination, including English Language and Literature in English obtained at not more than two sittings: such a candidate must in addition have an acceptable pass, as determined, in the UTME.
Direct Entry Mode (4-Year Degree Programme)
Direct Entry candidates will be permitted to join in year two of the programme. However, this category of students must take anyappropriate 100level course required.i      A two or three- year Diploma certificate plus credit passes in five (5) papers, including English Language and Literature in English at the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination or General Certificate of Education ‘Ordinary’ Level or their equivalent; or
ii     Three (3) papers passed at the Principal or Advanced Level in Higher School Certificate in addition to O’Level requirements as stated above.
iii    Two (2) papers at the Principal or Advanced Level in HSC or GCE in addition to O’ Level requirements as stated above.
iv    An acceptable First Degree.

COLLEGE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES

BIOCHEMISTRY Five SSCE credit passes at not more than two sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology. English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics. Two ‘A’ level passes in relevant subjects particularly Biology and Chemistry.
MICROBIOLOGY Five SSCE credit passes at not more than two sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry. English, Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics. Two ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and any one from Biology / Zoology/Botany.
BIOTECHNOLOGY Possess five (5) O’level credit passes at not more than two sittings including English Language, Mathematics Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and any other subject. English Language, Biology, Physics, Chemistry Two ‘A’ level passes in relevant subjects which may include Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Candidate with Ordinary National Diploma (OND), Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) certificate, Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) holders and any other relevant certificate are qualified to apply. Opportunity are also open to Transfer Students from other university
INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY Possess five (5) O’ level credits at not more than two sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology/Agric Science English Language, Chemistry, Physics, and any of Biology/ Agricultural Science/Mathematics Two ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and any one of Mathematics, Physics or Biology. ND/HND in Science Laboratory Technology having at least pass level relevant field at pass level or NCE with UTME requirements or candidates with IJMB ‘A ’level. Candidates with Joint Universities Preliminary Examination (JUPEB) certificate and any other relevant certificates as well as transfer students from other universities are qualified to apply.
INDUSTRIAL MATHEMATICS Possess five (5) O’ level credit passes at not more than two sittings including English language, Mathematics, Physics, and any two Science Subjects and any trade Subject English language, Mathematics, and any two of these Physics Chemistry, Economics, Biology, Agric.Science Two ‘A’ level Passes in relevant subjects which may include Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Chemistry.
Candidates with NCE requires minimum of merit in relevant subjects ND or HND with minimum requirements in relevant courses
MEDICAL PHYSICS Possess five (5) O’ level credit passes at not more than two sittings including English language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology. English Language, Physics, Chemistry and either Biology or Mathematics Two ‘A’ level passes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology. National Diploma (ND) at a minimum of  credit level in Physics Electronics, Physics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and any other related course from any recognised institution. Transfer students from other universities in relevant disciplines.

CYBER SECURITY Five SSCE credit passes at not more than two sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics and either Biology or Agricultural Science. English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics ‘A’ level passes in two science subjects relevant to the intended programme.
COMPUTER SCIENCE Five SSCE credit passes at not more than two sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and two other science subjects. English, Mathematics, Physics and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agric Science, Economics and Geography. 1. Two ‘A’ level passes in science subjects including Mathematics. 2. Diploma in Data Processing with at least a merit pass from a recognized University or OND/HND in Data Processing, Engineering and Mathematics with an overall B grade may be considered.
SOFTWARE ENGINEERING Five SSCE credit passes at not more than two sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Physics to form core subjects with credits in any two relevant subjects (Chemistry, Further Mathematics and Computer Studies) English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics ‘A’ level passes in two science subjects relevant to the intended programme.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS Five SSCE credit passes at not more than two sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Government/History and any other two relevant subjects. English, Mathematics and any two of the following: Economics, History, Government, Geography, Literature-in-English and French. Three ‘A’ level passes in the relevant subjects.
MARKETING Five SSCE credit passes at not more than two sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Economics or Commerce and any other two relevant subjects. English, Mathematics, Economics and any Social Science subject. Two ‘A’ level passes chosen from Accounting, Business Management, Government AND Geography.
MASS COMMUNICATION Five SSCE credit passes at not more than two sittings including English Language and four other subjects in Arts or Social Sciences. English and three from Arts or Social Sciences subjects. Two ‘A’ level passes in Arts and Social Science subjects.
ENGLISH Five SSCE credit passes at not more than two sittings including English Language, Literature-in-English, an Arts subject and any other two subjects. Literature-in-English, one other Arts subject and another Arts or Social Science subjects. 1. Two ‘A’ level passes in relevant subjects particularly English and Lit-in-English. 2. OND with Upper Credit in relevant fields.
HISTORY AND INT. STUDIES Five SSCE credit passes at not more than two sittings including English Language, Govt/History and any other three Arts/Social Science subjects. History/Govt and any other two subjects from Arts and Social Science. 1. Two ‘A’ level passes in relevant subjects particularly History, Government, Literature-in-English, etc 2. OND with Upper Credit in the Humanities.
RELIGIOUS STUDIES Five SSCE credit passes at not more than two sittings including English Language and CRK/IRS. CRS/IRS and other two subjects. Two ‘A’ level subjects to include Religious Studies (CRS/IRS)

FACULTY OF BASIC MEDICAL SCIENCES

NURSING Five SSCE credit passes at not more than two sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Chemistry at not more than two sittings English, Physics, Biology, Chemistry 1.) Two ‘A’ level passes (graded A-E) at the Advanced Level in Biology and Chemistry. 2.) OND/HND in Medical/Biological Sciences may also be admitted by direct entry into 200 level, provided they satisfy other University admission requirements. 3.)Registered Nurse or Midwifery Certificate and five credits at ordinary level GCE or SSCE which must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Chemistry at not more than two sittings can be considered for admission.
MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE Five credit level passes in subjects including Biology, Chemistry, English Language, Physics and Mathematics at the SSCE, NECO, GCE or their equivalent at not more than two sittings. English, Physics, Biology, Chemistry i.) Possess GCEA/IJMB with a minimum of two science subjects relevant to the intended programme
ii.) OND with minimum of lower credit in relevant field.
This is in addition to fulfilling the requirement of a minimum of credit level passes in five relevant subjects at O’level as indicated above.
PUBLIC HEALTH Possess five (5) O’level credit passes at not more than two sittings including English Language, Biology or Health Science, Chemistry, Mathematics and any other subject. English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Economics Two ‘A’ level passes in relevant subjects which may include Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Registered Nurses, Community Health Officers, Environmental Health Officers or candidates with NCE (Physical/Health Education, Home Economics, Science Education, Nutrition) having at least merit pass level or OND in Biological Sciences

TRANSFER TO NURSING (Additional Information)

Transfer from other faculties of this or other Universities recognized by McPherson University. After successfully completing a B.Sc. degree course in Biological  Sciences/ basic or pure sciences in part or whole in this or any other Universities/recognized by McPherson University, a candidate may be considered for admission into 200 level of the B.N.Sc. degree of this University provided such a candidate satisfies the admission requirements as prescribed in above.

A candidate from B.N.Sc. degree programme of a recognised university may be allowed to transfer into the programme after the faculty has been satisfied that the candidate has genuine reason for applying for transfer and has met all the criteria for transfer into the programme. However, such transfer student shall be admitted at a level to be determined by the faculty but not higher than 300 level.
