The Governing Council of McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, has approved the appointment of Prof. Julius Olatunji OKESOLA as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University with effect from November 16, 2023. The decision was taken at the 41st Statutory Meeting of the Council held same day, and it is for two (2) years in the first instance and renewable for another two (2) years based on satisfactory performance.
The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor will be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor in discharging his responsibilities as it relates to Academic Administration; Curriculum Development; Examination, Admission and other Senate Matters. He is also saddled with the duties of liaising with External Agencies and Non-Governmental Organisations in the overall interest of the University Development, Research and Innovation; and other assignments as may be given to him by the Vice-Chancellor.
Prof. Okesola obtained his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) from Methodist Grammar School, Igbo-Ora, Oyo State in 1986. He proceeded to Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) in Mathematics & Computer Sciences in 1992; Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Edo State in 2002; Master of Science degree (M.Sc.) in Computer Sciences from University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State in 2004 and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Sciences and Security from University of South Africa, Pretoria, South Africa in 2015.
He is a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems (IS) Auditor (CISA), Member of Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), USA, Chartered Member of Computer Professionals of Nigeria (CPN), and a Fellow of Nigerian Computer Society (FNCS).
Prior to his foray into academics in 2008, Prof. Okesola has served at senior management capacities in various banks in Nigeria on Revenue Assurance as well as Information Security (IS) related issues for almost two decades, and has equally supervised, trained, and mentored IS auditors and security professionals.
His academic trajectory started as Lecturer 1 (2008 – 2013), Senior Lecturer (2016 – 2019) and cumulated in full Professorship in 2020. Currently, he is a Professor of Cyber Security at McPherson University with over seventy (70) scholarly publications in high impact journals, books and conference proceedings. He has attended numerous conferences, seminars and workshops locally and internationally. He is a visiting professor and an External Examiner to a number of universities in and outside Nigeria.
