McPherson University Students Revolutionise Hostel Management with Innovative Portal

As part of the ongoing effort of McPherson University to ensure her students get the best possible experience, a team of students in their third-year at McPherson University have made significant strides in improving the student experience by developing a groundbreaking Hostel Allocation Management System. In partnership with New-Horizon, a renowned IT training institute registered with the University. These innovative students have created a platform that will streamline hostel management and enhance the overall quality of student life.

The Web based Hostel System offers a comprehensive suite of features, including:

  • Online Room Booking: Students can easily book hostel rooms from the convenience of their devices, eliminating the need for manual processes and reducing wait times.
  • Amenity Access: The portal provides a clear overview of available amenities, allowing students to make informed decisions about their accommodation.
  • Maintenance Request Submission: Students can submit maintenance requests directly through the portal, ensuring prompt and efficient resolution of any issues.
  • Communication Platform: The Hostel Portal serves as a centralised platform for communication between students and hostel management, facilitating timely updates and addressing concerns. The portal also promises anonymity and transparency in communication so as to avoid intimidation and harassment.

The development of the portal was a collaborative effort involving the students, and the ICT directorate of the university, being the liason between the University Community and the developer team ensures that the application meets the specific requirements of the student body. The ICT also oversees the deployment and training of Student Affairs Unit that manages the university hostel services.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Igbasan, expressed his admiration for the students’ initiative and innovation. “We are immensely proud of our students for developing such a valuable tool. The Hostel Portal demonstrates their creativity, problem-solving skills, and commitment to improving the University Community.” he said.
