McPherson University Appoints Alowolodu as Acting Dean, College of Computing


Dr. Olufunso ALOWOLODU has been appointed as the Acting Dean of the College of Computing of McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, for one year in the first instance with effect from December 1, 2023. Her appointment was approved by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, and she is saddled with the responsibility of overseeing the general administration and academic activities in her College in the areas of teaching, research, and community services.

Dr. Alowolodu earned her Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc. Hons) from the University of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State in 2001, and later proceeded to the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State where she obtained her Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Computer Science in 2009 and capped it with a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Computer Science in 2016, specialising in Cloud Computing and Network Security.

She started her academic career at FUTA in 2010 as a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and rose through the ranks to become an Associate Professor in 2023. Dr. Alowolodu’s academic sojourn in McPherson University commenced in October 2022 where she was appointed as the Head of the Department of Physical and Computer Sciences on sabbatical.
With her impressive academic track records, diligence and enviable performance, she was later appointed as the pioneer Acting Dean of the newly established College of Computing of McPherson University. She is a well-published scholar with over 32 scholarly publications in high impact journals, books and conference proceedings. She has attended conferences, seminars and workshops within and outside Nigeria, and has delivered impactful papers, particularly in her areas of specialisation.

She belongs to many professional bodies which include Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria; Organisation of Women in Science for Developing World (OWSD); Women in Cybersecurity (WiCys); and Nigeria Women in IT (NIWIT), among others.

To her credit, she has supervised several undergraduate and postgraduate projects, including over six doctoral theses successfully. She is a Certified Network Security Specialist and has received notable awards and scholarships, especially from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TetFund); Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing and KubeCon+ CloudCon.

Her current research interests include Security of Cloud Computing and Cloud Native Infrastructure; Cloud Architecture using Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

Dr. Alowolodu is happily married with children.
