McPherson University is a licensed Private Christian Institution established by the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria. The University hereby invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the post of BURSAR. The Bursar is the Chief Financial Officer of the University and is directly responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the management and control of the financial administration of the University. The Bursar as a Principal Officer and a member of the University Management Team provides expert advice regularly on issues of internal revenue generation, disbursement of funds, investments and other related financial issues.
He/She shall advise the Vice-Chancellor on finance-related matters, coordinate the development and update the University’s financial management plans, coordinate the preparation of periodic income and expenditure statements, balance sheet, cash flow estimates and consolidation, when necessary.
He/She shall ensure that accurate records are maintained of all assets and liabilities held by the University. The duties shall include
monitoring monthly income & expenditure, balance variances against the budgets and ensuring that they are reconciled, monitoring treasury
activities including cash flow projections and forecasts for prudence and accountability, negotiating with financial and government
institutions with regard to financial matters.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CANDIDATE
The candidate is expected to:
- Demonstrate evidence of consummate management and leadership passion and drive in previous positions and in addition, must possess
excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills. - Exhibit the ability to be a team leader, who can lead by example, his clear mentorship skills and plans, should not be older than sixty (60)
years of age upon appointment. - Exhibit a considerable degree of competence, responsiveness, demonstrable integrity and transparency on matters of financial
resource management with an outstanding experience at management level. - Possess personal integrity, demonstrate transparency in private and public life, and be able to command the respect and loyalty of staff,
students and other members of the University Community. - Be computer literate and proficient in relevant computer applications to e- accounting as applicable to the running of a complex and modern University System.
- Be a person with good leadership qualities who can inspire and motivate colleagues, a person with clear vision for the development of
the University and must be ready to implement the vision of the University. - Competency in yearly budget preparation, finance performance monitoring and reporting is essential.
- He/She must be focused and innovative.
- He/She must be technologically savvy.
- Enjoy strong physical and mental health.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The candidate for the post of Bursar must possess a good first degree not below Second Class Lower Division in Accounting and Finance from a recognized university with at least Fifteen (15) years post qualification experience in an institution of higher learning, most of which must be in the Accounting Cadre of a University. He/She shall be between the ages of 45 and not more than 60 years. The applicant must be a chartered Accountant with professional qualifications i.e. ICAN, ANAN, ACA, CIMA, CPA, ACCA or other equivalent professional body, with cognate post-qualification experience. In addition, he/she must be ICT compliant.
The prospective candidate must tender his/her NYSC Certificate or Evidence of Exemption.
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES
The salary and allowances attached to this position are very attractive. The University runs a salary scale that compares with what is obtainable in Public Universities in Nigeria.
CONDITIONS OFSERVICE
- The appointment is for a single tenure of five (5) years only.
