McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, in a bid to make learning, teaching and research easier and more flexible to both learners and lecturers with the use of modern ICT tools, has deployed the McU Learning Management System (McU-LMS).
The McPherson University Learning Management System gives students access to lecture materials and assignments, while lecturers interact with the students for further knowledge.
At a one-day pilot training organised by the University’s Information and Communication Technology and Resource Management Unit (ICT-RMU) for Staff of College of Computing, the Acting Director, ICT-RMU, Dr. Kayode Oladapo, said that the new teaching techniques will be user-friendly as various courses would be administered to one or more learners with ease.
While explaining the various links on the LMS platform to the participants, he mentioned that course registration, course allocation, uploading of course materials, recording of class activities, online assignments as well as computer-based test for assessment could be done effortlessly on the platform. With the new system, lecturers would need to configure their course allocations on the platform to make for easy teaching and interaction with the students.
For easy usage of the LMS, the Don revealed that the University has subscribed to Microsoft 365 Education Platform which will enable staff and students to have access to 27 Microsoft applications free of charge. This is coupled with the 100,000 licenses secured for staff, and 500,000 for students.
Relying on the University’s vision of having a knowledgeable workforce in modern ICT applications, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Igbasan, has approved that the training should be done across board.
The Acting Dean, College of Computing, Dr. Olufunso Alowolodu, appreciated the ICT-RMU Unit for the well-attended training held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, noting that the training would further expose them to new teaching techniques.
