The Management of McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, has approved the appointment of Dr. Ibam Emmanuel Onwuka as Acting Dean, College of Computing, with effect from August 1, 2025, for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Dr. Onwuka holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science (2014) from the Federal University of Technology, Akure; an M.Sc. in Computer Science (2008) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; and a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Statistics (1998) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He began his academic career as an Assistant Lecturer at the Federal College of Education, Kano in 2002, where he rose to the rank of Senior Lecturer before joining the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) in 2015. He is currently on sabbatical leave at McPherson University.
A seasoned academic and researcher, Dr. Onwuka is a co-recipient of the TETFund Science & Technology Innovation National Research Grant Award, securing over ₦20 million for the project titled A Personalised Adaptive Ubiquitous Learning System. He also received a grant from the African Educational Research Network (AERN), USA, and was recognized as one of five outstanding authors invited to present at the AERN 20th Anniversary Summit at North Carolina State University, USA.
His other recognitions include the TETFund International Conference Sponsorship Award (2011), a commendation from Virginia Union University, USA, for a brilliant seminar presentation, and a letter of commendation for selfless service from the Federal College of Education, Kano. He was also an early academic achiever, earning an automatic promotion for academic excellence during his elementary school years.
Dr. Onwuka has led and contributed to numerous innovative research projects, including the development of virtual classroom models, financial management systems, and assistive technologies such as a smart walking stick for the visually impaired. His research interests span e-learning systems, software engineering, systems and networks, and soft computing. He has authored over 37 research publications in reputable local and international journals.
He is a member of several international academic and professional organizations, including the International Association of Engineers (IAENG), African Educational Research Network (AERN), and the International Institute of Informatics and Systemics (IIIS), Florida, USA.
