Appointment Of Mrs. Dorcas Olukemi Oluyemisi Shonibare As Coordinating Dean, Faculty Of Nursing Sciences

The Management of McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, has approved the appointment of Mrs. Dorcas Olukemi Oluyemisi Shonibare as Coordinating Dean, Faculty of Nursing Sciences, with effect from August 1, 2025, for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Mrs. Shonibare is a distinguished nurse, midwife, educator, and administrator with decades of experience in nursing education and healthcare leadership. She holds a Master’s degree in Maternal and Child Health Nursing (2012) and a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Education (2001), both from the University of Ibadan. She also earned a Master of Public Administration (2006) from Lagos State University. Her foundational nursing and midwifery qualifications were obtained from the School of Nursing, UCH Ibadan (1987), and the Lagos State School of Midwifery, Ikoyi (1994). She is a Fellow of the West African College of Nursing (FWACN, 2021).

Her professional journey began at General Hospital, Lagos, as a Staff Nurse (1990–1993), and she served in several healthcare and educational institutions, including Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Ayinke House Ikeja, Lagos State School of Midwifery, and Lagos State School of Nursing. She held several leadership roles such as Deputy Head of School, Principal, and Head of School. She rose through the ranks at the Lagos State Ministry of Health to become Director of Nursing Services, a position she held until January 2025.

Mrs. Shonibare has also served extensively in national professional roles. She was a National Examiner and Script Marker for the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), a member of its Foreign Trained Nurses Committee, and participated in the National Result Coordination Committee. She coordinated the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme (MCPDP) for Nurses in Lagos State and the South West zone, contributing significantly to the advancement of nursing practice in Nigeria.

She has made over 65 professional presentations both in-person and virtually, and continues to engage in academic mentorship and training. She supervised undergraduate nursing research at the National Open University of Nigeria and taught entrepreneurship courses at LASUCOM. She is also actively involved in several professional associations including the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), and the Graduate Nurses Association of Nigeria (GNAN). She currently serves on multiple boards, including the Lead Nurse Africa Organisation and the Foursquare Hospital, Idimu.
