McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, has once again recorded a remarkable academic and professional milestone as its pioneer Medical Laboratory Science students achieved a 100% success rate in their just-concluded First Professional Examination conducted by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN). The remarkable feat, achieved in the Faculty’s debut professional examination, reinforces the University’s rising profile as a center of quality healthcare education in Nigeria.
The examination, which marked the first professional assessment for the Department since its inception, saw a total of 22 students from the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science sit for the test, with all emerging successful. This outstanding performance not only shows the quality of training at the University but also positions the Faculty as a rising force in healthcare education in Nigeria.
The Acting Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Adewale Oke, expressed deep appreciation to the indefatigable Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Igbasan, for his support from the early days of the Department’s establishment. He commended the Management for its consistent investment in infrastructure, facilities, personnel, and other resources, highlighting the ongoing construction of a new Faculty building as another sign to this commitment.
Dr. Oke further disclosed that the MLSCN representatives and examiners were on campus for three days to conduct the examinations for the 400-level students. According to him, the process was thorough, seamless, and reflective of the high academic standards upheld by the University. He also appealed to the Registrar of the Council to increase the University’s admission quota, noting that the current 100-student limit was no longer adequate due to overwhelming demand from prospective applicants.
In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor Professor Francis Igbasan warmly welcomed the External Examiner, Professor Kola Oyedeji, and the MLSCN Representative, Professor Roland Bejide, commending them for their professionalism and contribution to the success of the exercise. He reiterated the University’s commitment to delivering quality education while maintaining integrity in all its operations.
Prof. Igbasan expressed immense joy at the 100% pass rate, describing it as a reflection of the dedication of the Faculty leadership, academic staff, and the students themselves. He particularly lauded the Provost COAHS, Prof. Lucy Airauhi, the Acting Dean, Dr. Adewale Oke and lecturers for their commitment to excellence and hinted at plans to explore the establishment of diagnostic laboratories to further enhance the Faculty’s practical training capacity.
Speaking on behalf of the MLSCN, Professor Roland Bejide affirmed that the examinations were conducted under strict professional standards, affirming that the students are well-trained and capable of competing globally. He praised the comportment of the students throughout the process and commended the dedication of their lecturers and the entire Faculty team.
