The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) conducted a Resource Verification Exercise in McPherson University The visit was part of the institution’s request for an increase in its admission quota for the Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.NSc.) programme and its aspiration to establish a Faculty of Nursing.
The Resource Verification Team was led by renowned member of the Council, Mrs. Awe Adekemi. It will be recalled that the National Universities Council, NUC, and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, granted the Institution FULL Accreditation in 2023, a move that was greeted with lots of appreciation by the Management, Staff and Students.
The exercise commenced with a thorough staff audit, where the team assessed the qualifications and capacity of the University’s Academic and Administrative personnel in the Nursing Science Department. This was followed by an inspection of the institution’s facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, and clinical training equipment.
During the tour, the Team expressed their surprise at the state-of-the-art facilities and high-quality equipment available at McU. They commended the Institution for its commitment to providing an excellent learning environment for nursing students.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Igbasan, along with his Management team, warmly received the NMCN delegation. He reassured them of the University’s dedication to maintaining high standards in nursing education and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Prof. Igbasan also highlighted the McU’s vision of becoming a leading center for nursing education in Nigeria. He noted that securing approval for a Faculty of Nursing would further enhance the University’s ability to train competent and well-equipped healthcare professionals.
This Verification Exercise marks a crucial step in McU’s journey towards expanding its nursing program. The outcome of the assessment will determine whether the Institution meets the necessary criteria for an increased admission quota and the establishment of a Faculty of Nursing.
