Council Promotes Three Readers to Professorship

The Governing Council and Management of McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, have approved the promotion of three senior academics to the rank of Professor. The decision was reached at the 49th meeting held on Thursday, 20th October, 2025. The announcement marks an important moment in the University’s continuous effort to strengthen its academic workforce. It also shows the institution’s dedication to recognising excellence within its scholarly community.

The approval represents a major milestone for the University as it continues to recognise and reward exceptional performance in teaching, research, and institutional service. Management described the elevation as a reflection of the institution’s commitment to academic excellence. The promotions are expected to inspire other academics to pursue higher levels of productivity and innovation. University leadership also noted that this step aligns with long-term goals of enhancing global competitiveness.

One of the newly promoted academics is Professor Babatunde Lawal, a scholar of Accounting and Finance. His contributions to the University extend beyond the classroom, and he currently serves as Chairman of the Space Allocation Committee, where he oversees strategic utilisation of campus facilities. He has consistently demonstrated strong academic leadership and mentorship to junior colleagues. His promotion is seen as a well-earned recognition of years of impactful service.

Also promoted is Professor Michael Osho, an expert in Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology. At the time his promotion was approved, he was serving as the Acting Dean of the College of Postgraduate Studies, providing leadership in advancing postgraduate teaching, supervision, and research output. His academic contributions span several peer-reviewed publications and innovative research projects.

The elevation list further includes Professor Olubunmi Ajibade, an accomplished academic in Mass Communication. He doubles as the Acting Director of the Centre for Continuing Education and Chairman of the Senate Business Committee, roles through which he has contributed significantly to academic administration. His professional career reflects a strong commitment to expanding communication studies and improving academic governance.

According to the University Management, the three academics met all requirements for promotion, having distinguished themselves through scholarly publications, professional accomplishments, and dedicated service to the institution. Their promotions followed a rigorous assessment process aligned with national academic standards. Management emphasised that the outcome demonstrates the University’s confidence in their continued capacity to contribute meaningfully to institutional growth. The elevation also reinforces the University’s culture of rewarding merit.
