McU Public Health Department Raises Cancer Awareness on World Cancer Day

As the world marks World Cancer Day 2025, the Public Health Department of McPherson University has joined the global movement to raise awareness, educate communities, and promote cancer prevention. The initiative aligns with this year’s theme, “Close the Care Gap,”which emphasizes the need for equitable access to cancer care, early detection, and treatment for all.

Cancer remains a major public health challenge, affecting millions of people worldwide. Experts stress that early detection and preventive measures can significantly reduce cancer-related deaths. To address this, the Public Health Department at McPherson University has embarked on a comprehensive awareness campaign, equipping students, staff, and the larger community with vital knowledge about cancer risks, prevention, and the importance of routine screenings.

During the campaign, public health experts and medical professionals highlighted key cancer risk factors, including tobacco use, unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, infections, and exposure to harmful substances. They emphasized the importance of quitting smoking, maintaining a balanced diet, staying physically active, and getting vaccinated against HPV and Hepatitis B as essential steps in cancer prevention.

A major focus of the awareness program was on early detection through routine screenings, Participants were encouraged to undergo regular check-ups for breast, cervical, prostate, and colorectal cancers, as early diagnosis greatly improves survival rates. Public health officials also addressed common myths about cancer, stressing that early intervention can save lives.

In addition to lectures and discussions, students actively participated in advocacy efforts, spreading awareness through social media campaigns, posters, and community outreach programs. The initiative aimed to ensure that knowledge about cancer prevention reaches as many people as possible, especially in rural and underserved communities.

McPherson University’s Public Health Department reaffirmed its commitment to promoting health education and research on cancer prevention. The institution continues to collaborate with healthcare organizations and experts to equip students and the public with essential health information that can lead to a cancer-free future.

As World Cancer Day 2025 continues to inspire global action, the university urges individuals to take proactive steps in protecting their health, support awareness efforts, and advocate for accessible healthcare services. Together, through education and prevention, a future with fewer cancer cases is possible.
